11. Cono Sur Vision Sauvignon Blanc 2011 (Chile) $10
This is a single vineyard white wine that starts with straw-yellow hues in the glass and quickly mixes things up with plenty of green Granny Smith apple, tangy citrus components and a touch of florality on the nose. The palate profile reveals more zesty citrus fruit wrapped up in bracing acidity, a decent dose of minerality and solid balance. This Chilean white wine wraps up with a classic dry, fairly crisp finish. A perfect pairing partner for shellfish, roasted poultry, veggie-driven fare and softer cheese options.
12. Santa Rita Medalla Real Cabernet Sauvignon 2008 (Chile) $16
The Santa Rita Cabs showcase ample fruit on the nose and again in the mouth. Blackberry, bright cherry and wisps of tobacco maintain a vibrant palate profile with warm spice and oak-driven tones rounding out the finish. A very nice, consistent Cab for the price.
13. Casa Silva Reserva Carmenere 2009 (Chile) $12
An easy introduction to Chile's famed Carmenere grape. This is a fairly laid-back red with distinct fruit components, mainly blueberry, blackberry and raspberry, bolstered by a good bit of peppery spice in the mix. Easy-going tannins, fruit way forward, well-balanced acidity and a fair price make this a great go-to Carmenere.
