Definition: Italy's dominating Piedmont region, situated in northwest Italy, provides the landscape for growing the red Nebbiolo grape . The Nebbiolo grape gives rise to Barolo and Barbaresco wines - two red wines with international acclaim. Both Barolo and Barbaresco are big, bold red wines with definitive full-bodied appeal, high acidity levels, firm, well-structured tannins and are categorized as dry red wines. Keep in mind that in general, the 2000 and 2001 vintages from the Piedmont region are worth pursuing, the 2002 vintage - for the most part, leaves a bit to be desired.
Pronunciation: Peed-Mont
Also Known As: Northwest Italy's Wine Region
