Definition: The so called "French Paradox" is a reference to the general observation that the French population as a whole tends to consume a good bit of cheese, butter, bread and red wine and yet maintains relatively lower levels of cardiovascular disease as a nation, along with smaller waistlines in general. The French Paradox gained significant attention back in 1991 through a 60 Minutes show that highlighted the potential link. Studies have since focused on the French Paradox with mixed conclusions.
