Neutral Grape Spirits

By Stacy Slinkard, About.com

Definition: The term "neutral grape spirits" refers to the alcohol that is added to turn a still wine into a fortified wine. These neutral grape spirits are formed by distilling wine, by putting a base wine in a still and adding heat. Once the heat is added the alcohol and aroma will vaporize and it's these collected vapors that are referred to as neutral grape spirits.
