Definition: Touriga Nacional, indigenous to Portugal, is also the most widely recognized red grape in the country, historically grown in the northern Douro and Dão regions. Heavily utilized in the production of port wine, it is also a predominate player in Portugal's rising red table wines.

Touriga Nacional tends to be a smaller berry with thicker skin, bringing dark fruit character, floral aromatics and contributing plenty of sturdy structure via a heavy dose of tannin, acidity and phenomenal extract while also adding complexity, intensity and longevity to a finished wine.
