Vines at the J. Hofstätter Wine Estate

The J. Hofstätter Wine Estate was established in 1907 by the Foradori-Hofstätter family. Martin Foradori, the owner and esteemed winemaker, crafts his estate wines from one of seven vineyard estates that lie on either side of the Adige river. He makes wines that command attention and often get it - in the form of the "Tre Bicchieri" (three glasses) an award given by the leading Italian wine magazine, Gambero Rosso. Many of Martin's wines are age worthy, which is not surprising as he believes that you can see "The real soul of a wine is in its aging potential." After several vertical tastings, I would have to agree!

Wines to Try from J. Hofstätter:

After tasting several vintages of the The J. Hofstätter Kolbenhof Gewurztraminer, it is easy to see why this particular Hofstätter wine garners international attention. The Gewurztraminer wines from the Kolbenhof vineyard consistently offer vibrant, well-honed fruit character that is balanced with vivid acidity. If you are interested in a Pinot Noir from Alto Adige, then J. Hofstätter offers up a taste of the region's best Pinot. The J. Hofstätter Crozzol Pinot Noir brings dark cherry and earthy aromatics to the table. This is an elegant, refined rendition of Pinot Noir, made in a lighter more subtle style.

Visiting the J. Hofstätter Estate:

If you are considering a visit to the J. Hofstätter estate, then try to schedule it over lunch. As the Hofstätter Garden, is an ultra modern on-site restaurant that prides itself on serving up authentic South Tyrolean fare along with perfectly paired J. Hofstätter wines. There is also a true to form wine bar that allows patrons to experience the wide range of J. Hofstätter wines in a casual atmosphere. The wine shop features the latest vintages along with the J. Hofstätter estate honey. Ironically, the estate's beehives are a side hobby that Martin enjoys cultivating when the wine business gets a bit harried!
