White Wine Sangria

The beauty of the simple White Wine Sangria recipe is that it is as delicious as it is easy, and it only gets better as you add your favorite fruits!

Prep Time: 5 minutes

Total Time: 5 minutes

Ingredients:

  • 1 Bottle of white wine (Riesling, Albarino, Chablis, Gewurztraminer, Pinot Gris, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc)
  • 2/3 cup white sugar
  • 3 oranges (sliced) or may substitute 1 cup of orange juice)
  • 1 lemon (sliced)
  • 1 lime (sliced)
  • 2 oz. brandy (optional)
  • 1/2 liter of ginger ale or club soda (ginger ale for those with a sweeter tooth!)

Preparation:

Pour wine in the pitcher and squeeze the juice wedges from the orange, lemon and lime into the wine, add brandy if desired. Toss in the fruit wedges (leaving out seeds if possible) and add sugar. Chill overnight. Add ginger ale or club soda just before serving.

If you'd like to serve right away, use chilled white wine and serve over lots of ice.

Addition ideas: sliced strawberries, peaches, handful of fresh blueberries, raspberries, kiwi, a shot or two of gin, brandy or rum, a cup of citrus-flavored soda pop.

a little tweaking makes a great hit!, Member coolchix

what you need: 1 bottle of reisling 1 bottle of vino verde 4 OZ cointreau 2 OZ brandy 4 little cans of dole OJ/pineapple juice (24 OZ total) 4 green apples 4 oranges 3 lemons pomegranate seeds 2 25.4 fluid OZ bottles of italian lemonade soda what you do: i used the original recipe with some adjustments. i was wary of the amount of sugar for every bottle of wine. it seemed like it was just going to be way too sweet. i went to my local wine store and asked for some alternative suggestions. i had already committed to a few bottles of resling to start with when the wine guy suggested i use 1 bottle of reisling to 1 bottle of vino verde. i did this and also used 4 OZ of conintreau and 2 OZ of brandy (this is a doubled recipe since i ended up using 2 bottles of wine at a time.) i found dole makes little cans of a pineapple/OJ mix (no added sugar) and i used 4 cans with 2 extra just in case because i was worried it might not be sweet enough. (but it was.) i cut up green apples (about 4) in little bite-sized chunks, oranges (about 4) - some sliced - some diced, sliced lemons (about 3) and pomegranate seeds (a package) which fell to the bottom but swirled around looking very pretty when served and the people who got the last few cups were very excited! i did this all 12 hours ahead, split into 2 pitchers with wrap over the tops. i then had a large punch bowl that i poured it all in to right before company arrived. then i skipped the straight sugar completely and instead added (right before serving with lots of ice) 2 25.4 fluid OZ bottles of italian lemonade soda. it was amazing. my red wine drinkers gluped it down and wanted more. i ran out. it was really light, refreshing and a big hit. enjoy!
