The recipe calls for two 14 ounce cans of diced tomatoes, but if you are making this Bolognese recipe when tomatoes are in season it is absolutely amazing what fresh tomatoes will bring to the dish. To substitute just slice and dice about 3 cups of fresh cherry or Roma tomatoes, in place of the 2 cans of diced tomatoes.
