Breaux Vineyards is one of northern Virginia's premier stops along Loudoun County's scenic wine trails, located in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains just down the road from the quaint town of Purcellville. Family-owned and grown, Breaux Vineyard's name and crawfish bottle label nods at the family's Cajun heritage. The winery has over 100 acres under vine and is cultivating close to 20 different grape varietals on site, with Merlot being their most widely planted grape. Known for stunning vineyard views, award winning wines, their annual Cajun and Key West Festivals, outstanding wedding venues and family-friendly atmosphere, Breaux Vineyards is a cornerstone of the county's regional wine offerings.
Wines to Try From Breaux Vineyards:
The Breaux Vineyards 2011 Jolie Blond ($16) showcases 100% Seyval Blanc in a highly aromatic blend of fresh citrus, peach and Granny Smith apple fruit. Dry with well-honed acidity, subtle citrus and apple-driven flavors on the palate make this perfect for sipping with a variety of summer fare. The 2009 Marquis De Lafayette ($16) offers a medium-bodied, 100% Cab Franc, well-oaked red wine. Expect dark blackberry fruit, black plum and a decent dose of clove character and vanilla spice along with well-rounded tannins. This Cab Franc is a significant representative for Virginia Cab Franc, showing solid quality and consistency as one of the state's best bets for red wine grapes. The Breaux Marquis De Lafayette is an elegant red wine find with plenty of pairing options. On the dessert wine front, Breaux brings the 2010 Chere Marie ($16), made from 100% Vidal Blanc grapes. Concentrated floral notes mingle with the denser accents of tangerine, honeyed mango and ripe pineapple. The palate shows juicy D'Anjou pear with balanced acidity and well-maintained residual sugar. A lovely wine from start to finish.
Breaux Vineyards Wine Club:
Breaux Vineyards Cellar Club members can enjoy 12 small-lot, hand-harvested wines in bimonthly shipments for around $50 per shipment. Many of the wines available to Breaux wine club members are not available in the tasting room, but have been crafted by Breaux's winemaker, David Pagan Castaño, specifically for the membership. Other club perks include free winery tastings and significant discounts on additional tastings, wine purchases and winery events.
Breaux Vineyards offers daily wine tastings in their recently expanded tasting room. For $10 you can run through the entire menu of current wines (typically 8-12), with a healthy mix of whites, reds, dessert and barrel select wines. Tours of the gorgeous grounds are also available for $3 a pop. An annual Cajun Festival draws visitors every summer to rock out to hip Cajun bands while tasting the healthy variety of wines coming out of the Breaux cellar and relish in all things Cajun, with family-friendly food and activities (including active entertainment for kiddos).
