Mendoza, bordering Chile on the west side, is Argentina's largest and most well-known growing region, followed by San Juan for both vineyard acres and production volume. Argentina boasts very dynamic-growing conditions with good soil, a wide range of vineyard elevations and accomodating sunlight and temperatures. Similiar to European wines, the region's unique districts are often what appear on the bottle label. So, it's worth knowing several of Mendoza's top districts for label reference. Several of the Mendoza wine districts to know include: Maipu, Agrelo, Lujan de Cuyo and Uco Valley. Argentina has not had to deal with a phylloxera threat and enjoys the luxury of hosting some very old vines.
