Ontario - The World's Gift to Dessert Wines
Sunday April 17, 2005
The Canadian wine industry has witnessed phenomenal growth in the last 15 years, their claim to fame has undoubtedly been due, in large part, to their dessert or icewines. Of the four Canadian provinces that produce wine - Ontario holds the prize for being Canada's largest producer, with British Columbia shuffling in at second place. Ontario's cool climate and subsequent freezing temperatures make it an ideal climate to harvest frozen-on-the-vine Vidal Blanc or Riesling grapes. Inniskillin Winery, Riverview Cellars Estate Winery, Pillitteri Estates Winery and Peller Estates are all wineries with a reputation for producing fine icewines.
