Pairing Wines with Your Thanksgiving Feast

Thursday November 25, 2004
Your turkey is cooking, your side dishes are chilling and your next decision is which wine or wines to pair with your Thanksgiving dinner? With so many varied flavors and aromas coming from the kitchen there are sure to be a number of winning combinations, but if you would like to stick with the tried and true Thanksgiving Day wines then think vintage versatility. To compliment your turkey, Pinot Noir is a slam dunk, especially for the red wine lovers in your holiday gathering. This light to medium bodied wine will not compete with the myriad of flavors around your table, only enhance them. For those that prefer white wines, a fresh, fruit-flavored Chardonnay will more than fit the bill. Chardonnays lend themselves well to supporting the diverse food flavors and styles that are the hallmark of a Thanksgiving Day feast. If you are looking for a wine that will carry your glass from appetizers through desserts then a delicately flavored Riesling may be just your number. This refreshing, fruity varietal brings a subtle sweetness to the featured foods and tends to have a lower alcohol content than other wines. Whatever wines you chose to share with family and friends this Thanksgiving, know that it is virtually impossible to pick the "wrong wine," the right wine is the one you enjoy and can share with others.
