I'm a fan of wine clubs for many reasons, not the least of which is that they force you (and me) out of our well worn wine buying patterns. I know which wines I like and why, I have my favorite producers, styles, regions, and all occasion go-to wines, so do you. Yet in any given month a good wine club shipment can turn it all upside down and force me to broaden my wine tastes, palate preferences, and regional scope all in a single sip.
New wines can (and should) introduce us to different wine regions, inspire creative recipe ventures, invite cultural cross-checks, and in the most extreme cases encourage wine country travel adventures. Wine clubs are often the hidden doorway to these vinous introductions, educating members with motivating, educational newsletters featuring tried and true recipes for pairing with the latest shipment of wine, spotlighting a winemaker that tweaks technology and tradition to make a wine truly memorable, or profiling an unfamiliar wine region with boots on the ground wines to seal the intro.
Yep, I'm a fan of wine clubs, they are the number one wine gift-giving (and getting!) idea for the holiday season - a perfect fit for wine newbies and crusty old connoisseurs alike. Want to check out our top wine club picks? See our updated wine club reviews here.
