Named for a historic Civil War site where 40,000 Confederate soldiers made a significant river crossing that measured 1.8 "chains" (about 66 ft.) from Confederate officer, Colonel White's, property the 8 Chains North winery is a family-owned and operated winery with Ben Renshaw wearing the dual hats of vineyard manager (for his estate and a number of other vineyards in the area) and sole winemaker.
Anyway, 8 Chains North is a top-pick winery stop near Leesburg, offering a stellar Sauvignon Blanc from the 2011 vintage. A blend of Sauvignon Blanc from two different vineyards and fermented in stainless steel, the 2011 brings a fresh, vibrant style with bright citrus-laden fruit, awesome acidity and a crisp, refreshing finish. Well worth the search!
