Wine of the Week: Susana Balbo Malbec 2010 (Argentina) $25

Follow me on:

This classy, Argentinian Malbec from Susana Balbo has just a dash of Cabernet Sauvignon (5%) in the mix, contributing structure and stretching out the finish. On the nose, you'll find dark cherry and blackberry fruit surrounded by mocha and vanilla spice.

The palate showcases black plum and cherry with rich dark chocolate and currents of coffee rounding out the flavor profile. The tannins on this Malbec are wound pretty tight and may appreciate a bit of breath and/or some more cellar time.  Give it a go with pulled pork, barbecued ribs, beef empanadas, roasted venison and even grilled veggies.

Susana’s wines are too expensive. There are much better values to be had if you shop at the $10-15 level.

Agreed, this is a bit more than her Crios line, but if you are up for a splurge I think you will see why. Thanks for posting. -Stacy
