Wine of the Week: Yarden Gewurztraminer 2006 (Israel) $23

Thursday April 17, 2008

There is a serious "Wow" factor in this spicy Yarden Gewurztraminer from Golan Heights Winery - exceptional depth and body along with characteristic Gewurztraminer varietal style, make this a savory white wine treat! The color content reflects a mixture of deep yellow gilded with bits of gold. The nose suggests pear and citrus fruit. The palate produces a melding of apricot and pear, citrus and honey all overlaid with a distinct minerality. With Passover this Saturday, this is a perfect kosher wine find, but don't limit its culinary involvement to Jewish holidays - this Gewurz would be a star at any summer gathering! This semi-dry white wine is assertive enough to handle the heat and power of spicy Asian fare.
