Wine of the Week: Montes Alpha "M" 2005 (Chile) $80
The Montes Alpha "M" was recently dubbed "favorite red wine" at our most recent wine tasting. Not to mention that Montes Alpha "M" has gained international recognition for being an award winning, ultra-premium Chilean red wine. It's no surprise, as this is a tip top Bordeaux-style blend consisting of Cabernet Sauvignon (80%), Cabernet Franc (10%), Merlot and Petit Verdot (both pitching in 5%). This wine is full-bodied and rich, with an intensity that resonates with the well structured tannins. The color is bold a mix of ruby red and magenta on the edge. The nose exposes mint, berry and a trace of mocha. The palate profile is peppery, with coffee and currant, deep vanilla and delightfully concentrated fruit - plum, cherry and blackberry to be more specific. Keep in mind that while this wine is a fantastic drink now, it will only get better as it matures with additional years (consider aging for 15+ years). Give it a go with roasted game, lamb and Brie or Gouda.
