Wine of the Week: Clos Du Val's Napa Valley Merlot 2004 (CA) $26

Thursday January 31, 2008

Clos Du Val has created another classic, full-bodied red wine, in this case it's their Merlot that claims the spotlight. The flavor profile consists of dark fruit, mainly plums, cherry and blackberry mixed with a wee bit of sweet clove spice. Nice tannins too, versatile in nature - not too rigid as to exert noticeable force, but not quite in the "pushover" category either. The finish exhibits both breadth and depth. The Clos Du Val Merlot is a lovely wine to have on hand for company, a gift wine, or to pair for yourself with prime rib or salmon or with slow-cooker favorites like chili or pot roast.
