Wine of the Week: Spottswoode Estate Cabernet Sauvignon 2004 (CA) $110

Wednesday December 12, 2007

If you can get your hands on a bottle of the Spottswoode 2004 Estate Cabernet Sauvignon you will be in for a tremendous treat. This is the type of wine that would make an exquisite Christmas present, a perfect wedding gift or if you want to impress your boss - this would be it! Ultra-classy, with transcending elegance and well-refined features, the 2004 Spottswoode Cabernet Sauvignon lives up to the Spottswoode reputation for stunning limited production estate wines. As for the flavor profile, deep focused fruit greets the palate, dominated by dark cherries and well-supported by perfectly ripened blackberries. There is a zest of cinnamon and rich vanilla interlaced with the fruit that both softens and yields the forward flavors. This Cabernet Sauvignon's tannins provide delicate structure without being stoic and the fine-tuned acidity develops a radiance that persists through the beautifully sustained finish. Overall, this is a very striking wine - a fitting release to help celebrate Spottswoode's 125th Anniversary year. Likewise, it would be a fitting wine for a Christmas dinner, New Year's celebration or your own anniversary!

Last time I visited Spottswoode they weren’t selling their wines all over the US, of course this was quite a while ago. They always have a good wine.
