Wine of the Week: Sterling Vineyards Napa Valley Merlot 2003 (CA) $22

Thursday October 11, 2007
Sterling Vineyards is known for producing consistent classic varietal wines, with many of them reasonably priced. The 2003 Merlot is no exception. This medium-bodied red wine offers aromas of cherry and all-spice on the onset, then boasts a remarkable flavor profile - virtually bursting with cherry and blackberry fruit, followed by nuances of chocolate, some spice and a sophisticated finish. A terrific wine to have on hand for entertaining or holiday gatherings. Consider pairing with filet mignon, lightly seasoned grilled veggies and/or French onion soup.
