Stacy, i was reading an article by kyle, from 1997, about wooden barrels, bottles, and barriques. For some reason, kyle thinks because the barriques are smaller than the barrels, that the wood will have mor influence on the wine. The ratio of the surface area of the inner barrel or barrique stays the same as long as the shape of the barrels and barrique are the same ( heigth and diameter). So, I don’t see how a smaller barrel (barrique) wood would have any greater influence on the wine than that of a larger barrel… Can you put some light on this for me. Garry

The ratio I am talking about is the ratio of the surface area inside of the barrel to the amount of wine it holds. If the shapes are the same, then the wood influence should be the same. Garry
