Wine of the Week: A-Mano Primitivo 2003 (Italy) $11

Thursday June 29, 2006
Somewhat reminiscent of a Zinfandel, A-Mano Primitivo is a bold red wine from Puglia, Italy. It is packed with the utlra ripe flavors of blackberries and cherries wrapped up in a zesty pepper spice. The perfect complement to most Italian fare, grilled red meats, and a Greek or pasta-based salad.

Rather than saying this primitivo is “reminiscent” of a zinfandel, don’t we now know that they are the exact same grape?

Recent genetic test at UC Davis have determined that they are not the same grape. “reminiscent” is a good description.
